In the midst of the wheat fields, a squad of Percian knights was advancing dangerously close to the city of Sparta. Barbarians who had come in peace to announce, through the intervention of a messenger, the imminent entry of the entire Percian empire on Greek soil. King Leonidas himself received this messenger who, as soon as he arrived on the scene, reared his horse and proudly displayed the trophies of previously defeated kings.
In other words, the skulls of kings who had laid down their arms in the face of the terrible strike force of the Perces. A warning or rather a threat telling Leonidas not to use his army. Arson attacks on entire villages, the city of Sparta destroyed down to the smallest building, children, men and old people enslaved and women raped and murdered, etc.
After seeing with open eyes this nightmare that was about to become reality, Leonidas took the wise decision to act. In reality, it was just another ploy to try and kill Xerxes.
