Chance Interactive: the Sydney studio that changed its name to become ReelPlay

Chance Interactive has not existed under that name since the summer of 2019, and that is exactly what makes its story worth telling. This B2B slot studio from the south-western suburbs of Sydney signed its first 25-line reels before reinventing itself under the new name of the Sydney studio, ReelPlay, and then inventing a mechanic the whole industry still talks about, Infinity Reels. This page is a heritage hub. It traces the path of the Chance Interactive brand from its birth to its disappearance, it points you to its successor's page, and it will offer you neither a list of casinos nor a demo. The reason fits in one sentence: no online casino listed on Kynox offers titles under the Chance Interactive name as of 15/10/2026, and the studio itself has filed that name away in its archives.

Why does this page offer neither casinos nor demos?

An empty CASINO filter is not an oversight on my part. It is information. As of 15/10/2026, the page kynox-casino.fr/logiciels/chance-interactive returns no operator, and that is normal: the titles from the Chance Interactive era have been taken over under the ReelPlay banner or withdrawn from the market. The official demos live on the studio's demo portal, under the current name. I do not reproduce them here, as much for editorial consistency as for respect of trademark rights. You came looking for Chance Interactive, so you will find a biography, not a game room.

There is a relay, though. If you want to watch the Sydney team's reels spin, the ReelPlay page is made for that, and if the whole provider landscape interests you, my directory of defunct or renamed providers lists page by page the studios still active as well as those that have drawn the curtain.

What is left of Chance Interactive in 2026?

Not much on the surface, and quite a lot underneath. The site chanceinteractive.com.au, cited by the directories of the time, no longer responds. The current corporate site, reel-play.com, still mentions the old name in its footer, in a wording I find rather touching for a gambling company: "ReelPlay and Chance Interactive is licensed and regulated in Great Britain by the Gambling Commission under account number 54430". The British register, consulted on 15/10/2026, shows only the current company name, ReelPlay Pty Ltd.

What survives above all is the DNA. The Australian business number is the same, the postal address has stayed in the same Campbelltown postcode since 2013, and the team claims "more than 10 years of experience" on its games portal. In other words, Chance Interactive is not dead. It has shed its skin, like a land-based casino that renovates its facade without touching the slot floor.

Timeline of a company born in 2013 and a brand born in 2014

Every press release from the studio repeats the same formula: "Founded in 2014 as Chance Interactive". The Australian business register tells a slightly different, and more precise, story.

2013: a quiet company before the legend of 2014

The detail may look trivial. It is not. When a provider says "founded in 2014", it usually means its first year of production, not the date the papers were signed. Here, the historical ABN records show a shell created in March 2013, active on paper, and a GST registration on 1 July 2014, the date from which a small Australian company starts invoicing in earnest. The marketing "2014" therefore matches the moment Chance Interactive actually began selling games, which is, in the end, the only date that matters to a player.

2014 to 2017: 25-line reels in the shadow of the giants

The first Chance Interactive titles are classic slots in their architecture: five reels, twenty to twenty-five lines, an RTP around 95%. Lolly Land, Bounty Hunt, Canyon Cash, Captain Black Bart's Treasure, Creepy Castle: names you still find on affiliate directories, but which no longer appear on the studio's official portal. Descriptions from the period present a company that develops "to order" for bigger houses, with support on game maths, which says a lot about its initial model: a subcontracting workshop more than a provider with a strong brand.

It is no accident that distribution already went through OGS, the Open Gaming System from NYX. Sydney has always been a talent pool for slot design, between the Australian giant of the casino cabinet based in North Ryde and the online studios that sprang up around it. David Johnson, who would later run ReelPlay, cut his teeth in the NextGen Gaming team before moving to NYX Gaming Group, according to the release announcing his appointment on 15/02/2021. The lineage is clear: the Chance Interactive casino provider was born in the NextGen and NYX ecosystem, the one that would become SG Digital and then Light & Wonder.

2018: two arrivals that change everything

The real turning point came in 2018, when Scott Smith arrived as CEO and David Johnson as CCO. The studio's releases speak of a "new era", and the phrase is not too strong. Within eighteen months, Chance Interactive would release its first hit, obtain a British licence, change its name and launch a mechanic protected by a registered trademark. That is the kind of acceleration you rarely see in a studio of this size.

January 2019: Buster Hammer Carnival opens the ball

On 22/01/2019, CasinoBeats announced Buster Hammer Carnival as the first title of the Smith and Johnson period. A 5x5 grid with 3,125 ways to win in the base game, expanding to 5x8 and 32,768 ways during the Mighty Free Spins, an "ante" bet that modifies the reels, and backdrops that change with the seasons (Chinese New Year, St Patrick's Day, Halloween, Christmas): the spec sheet is already that of a studio targeting major regulated operators. The game first launched exclusively with a Swedish mobile operator, then across the whole OGS network. It would still reach New Jersey in February 2021, which makes it the longest-lived title in the house.

July 2019: the name change

On 17/07/2019, the release "ReelPlay re-brand goes live" landed in the studio's newsroom. David Johnson explains there that the new name "best represents where the business is today and where it's headed", and he spins a metaphor I find delicious: ReelPlay wants to be "the mothership", the mother ship of a flotilla of satellite studios. Ten days later, the ReelPlay business name was registered in Australia. On 31/07/2019, the company name followed. Chance Interactive became a history line in a register.

How did Chance Interactive become ReelPlay?

Step by step, and in an order worth reading carefully. The British licence, issued on 24/06/2019, came three weeks before the name change was announced and five weeks before the company name changed. The Gambling Commission register today shows only ReelPlay Pty Ltd, but the footer of the official site keeps the mention "ReelPlay and Chance Interactive", a trace of a period when both names coexisted on contracts and integrations.

The second ingredient is the repositioning. Chance Interactive was a workshop. From 2019, ReelPlay presents itself as a provider that will "author the best in online digital gaming content" while "incubating select competitive collaborators". The name change was therefore not cosmetic. It went with a change of trade, from subcontracting studio to provider-incubator lending its mathematicians, integrators and sales people to other brands. The fact that a Sydney neighbour listed among its development collaborators, Lightning Box, sits in that constellation shows that the Australian scene works as a network rather than in head-on competition.

Infinity Reels: the invention that made the name

If Chance Interactive is remembered at all, it is paradoxically thanks to a game released under its new name. In November 2019 according to the studio, in December according to Relax Gaming's news page, so four to five months after the rebrand, El Dorado Infinity Reels landed with the operators of the Relax network. The Infinity Reels mechanic was born. The principle is devastatingly simple: every winning spin adds a reel to the right of the grid and triggers a respin with a rising multiplier. As long as the new reel improves the combination, the grid keeps stretching. At the twelfth added reel, a fixed prize of 888 times the stake drops on top of the running wins.

El Dorado: first to the table

El Dorado Infinity Reels ranked among the best titles in a streaming community's "Slot of the Year 2019" poll, and ReelPlay finished second in the "Game Provider of the Year" category of the same poll. For a studio that had just changed its name, that is an opening many Maltese providers would have signed with both hands. The game then served as a bridgehead to North America: in May 2020 it was among the studio's launch titles in New Jersey, on Scientific Games' OpenGaming platform, "the first time ReelPlay's unique Infinity Reels mechanic will be seen outside of Europe".

The Infinity Reels licences: a brand that became a product in itself

ReelPlay understood very quickly that the mechanic was worth more than the game. On 29/04/2020, the Maltese aggregator holding the Infinity Reels rights, Relax Gaming, signed an intellectual property deal allowing it to apply the "trade dress" and the mechanic to its own productions and to make the licence available to its Silver Bullet and Powered By studios. The Relax release speaks of a "truly unique and original mechanic". On 10/06/2020, Relax played matchmaker so that a second Powered By partner could adopt the mechanic: PG Soft obtained the rights in turn, and Ken Zhang, its co-founder, hailed "such a unique mechanic".

The list then grew at a steady pace: Live 5 on 20/07/2020, BB Games on 24/07/2020 with a development and distribution contract thrown in, then Scientific Games on 15/12/2020, whose in-house studio released Book of Ultimate Infinity. That publisher of Book of Ultimate Infinity had in fact provided "development assistance" on El Dorado, which explains how quickly the deal was done. In total, the official newsroom counts five separate licensees between April and December 2020, on top of the group's satellite studios.

The NetEnt case and the InfiniReels

On 27/04/2020, two days before the Relax deal, ReelPlay Pty Ltd and NetEnt Product Services Ltd announced an agreement "which strengthens their respective rights" over the Infinity Reels and InfiniReels marks. The Swedish creator of the InfiniReels was then preparing Gods of Gold InfiniReels for 14/05/2020. Gaming Intelligence had to publish a correction the same day to clarify that the two mechanics had been designed independently and that NetEnt had not signed the same contract as Relax. The corrected article remains the best source on this episode of peaceful coexistence between two twin ideas. Bryan Upton, NetEnt's director of games, summed it up elegantly: "it made sense for us to come together".

Megaways then 10K Ways: the other reel families

Infinity Reels is not the only mechanic in the house. The name-change release already announced, for August 2019, a game "with over 117,000 ways to win", a sign that the licence from the owner of the Megaways brand, Big Time Gaming, had been secured in the Chance Interactive days. Hypernova Megaways, released on 19/08/2019 as an exclusive with a Swedish operator, became the first game published under the ReelPlay banner and, according to the Eilers & Krejcik reports quoted by the studio, one of the best-performing slots in regulated North American markets. Atlantis Megaways, Big Bucks Bandits Megaways and, in May 2021, Odin Infinity Reels Megaways followed, "the first slot in the world to offer Megaways to infinity".

The 10K Ways series, an in-house mechanic with 10,000 ways to win, arrived with 10,000 Wonders 10K Ways in October 2021. Today it is the locomotive: on the Games page of the demo portal, checked on 15/10/2026, ten recent titles carry the 10K Ways suffix, from Gold Is All Mine (March 2025) to Astro Dogfight (December 2025).

That makes 54 video slot pages visible on this single page, which only shows the "latest" of each family: the full portfolio is larger. The RTPs published on the 2025 and 2026 pages range between 96.02% and 96.74%. To place these grids among the video reel studios I classify by format, keep in mind that ReelPlay does nothing but slots: no table games, no live, no crash.

The mothership and its satellite studios

This is the most original part of the story, and the one competing pages forget. Since 2019, the studio has supplied "game build, math, marketing, integration and commercial expertise" to independent workshops that have neither the platform nor the contacts to launch on their own. The releases from 2020 to 2022 name several of them: Boomerang Games, now Boomerang Studios, the workshop behind the dynamic Connecta Ways reels whose Gems of Egypt came out in August 2020; Games Lab, inventor of the Towering Pays mechanic, also based in Sydney; High Flyer and its "Bonus Ways" that swell a grid from 729 to 262,144 ways; Hot Rise Games and its Hot1 series; and finally BB Games, which combines an Infinity Reels licence with a build contract.

The model is clever. ReelPlay lends its resources, takes its share on distribution, and each satellite feeds the pipeline that Relax or Yggdrasil are waiting for. In August 2022, three partner games came out in a single month on the Relax network, "under the same release methodology as if releasing any of ReelPlay or indeed any of Relax's proprietary games". For a former subcontracting workshop, becoming the principal for its peers has something symmetrical and rather pleasing about it.

The studio's four distribution channels

Four main channels, stacked up over the years without ever replacing one another.

The Yggdrasil deal deserves a word, because it illustrates the studio's technological shift. Joining YG Masters means developing on the GATI toolkit of the Maltese provider, a "preconfigured, regulation-ready" kit that lets a game go out across the whole Yggdrasil network without redoing the integration market by market. CasinoBeats covered the signing of 29/09/2020, and the stream of releases that followed, Thor, Odin, Gems, Money Mariachi, Age of Beasts, Bananaz, ARRR!, Mega Pearl, shows that GATI was to ReelPlay what OGS had been to Chance Interactive: the launch ramp that changes the scale.

The last major contract on record is the four-year extension with Light & Wonder, signed on 11/10/2023 in Las Vegas, with "first to market" exclusivity for the platform's operators and variable RTPs on all new games. David Johnson signs it as CEO, a position he has held since 15/02/2021. Scott Smith has moved to the board.

Licence and regulatory framework

Just one, and it is British.

RegulatorLicenseeReferenceStatus on 15/10/2026

The Gambling Commission public register no longer mentions Chance Interactive. For the United States and Canada, the studio relies on its aggregators' licences: the games reach New Jersey, Michigan, Ontario or British Columbia through Light & Wonder, not under a ReelPlay licence. I found no Maltese, Swedish or Curaçao licence in the company's name, under either the old or the new name, so I am not inventing one.

One thing to keep in mind wherever you live: a B2B provider licence is not an operator licence. It says the studio's games have been tested and may be supplied to licensed casinos. It says nothing about whether online casino play is legal in your country. Several countries, and most US states, allow online sports betting but not online casino. Check the rules of your own place of residence before playing, and if you want to get a feel for the format first, the slots freely playable at other studios that I list remain the only free, no-registration option.

My opinion on Chance Interactive

Chance Interactive, as a brand, never existed for the general public, and there is no point dressing that up. Between 2014 and 2018, it was a Campbelltown workshop making honest 25-line reels for others, in a city where Aristocrat and NextGen soaked up all the talent. Had the story stopped there, this page would have no reason to exist.

What I like is what came next, and the way it sheds light on what came before. Two executives arrive, a slightly kitsch carnival game finds its audience, the name changes, and six months later a very simple idea, adding a reel on every win, becomes a registered trademark that the industry's giants come to license. I have seen plenty of studios promise "revolutionary mechanics" in their press releases. I have seen very few secure a coexistence agreement with NetEnt and licences with Relax, PG Soft and Scientific Games in the same year.

My reservations are of two kinds. The first concerns transparency: the company keeps the "founded in 2014" myth alive while its register says 2013, it names its founders nowhere, and its official newsroom stops in October 2023 while releases carry on into 2026. The second concerns the demo portal, which mixes free demos with affiliate links to casinos, including a crypto platform, under the studio's own name. For a provider that claims the rigour of regulated markets, that is a split I would not have advised.

Still, if you ask me what became of Chance Interactive, I will answer without hesitation: one of the rare slot studios whose name change coincided with a real change of destiny. See its successor's page for the rest of the story.

FAQ: Chance Interactive

What is Chance Interactive?

Chance Interactive is the former name of a B2B slot studio based in Campbelltown, in the suburbs of Sydney. The company, registered on 05/03/2013 and commercially active since 01/07/2014, was renamed ReelPlay on 31/07/2019. The games from that era are now distributed under the ReelPlay brand.

Does Chance Interactive still exist?

The brand disappeared in 2019, but the company still exists under the name ReelPlay Pty Ltd, with the same business number (ABN 31 162 677 081) and the same Campbelltown address. The footer of the official site reel-play.com still mentions both names.

Why did Chance Interactive become ReelPlay?

The name change, announced on 17/07/2019, went with a change of trade: the studio moved from game subcontracting to a provider-incubator role, supplying development, maths, integration and distribution to other studios. The commercial director at the time, David Johnson, presented ReelPlay as "the mothership".

Who founded Chance Interactive?

Official sources speak of "gaming professionals" and "the founders" without ever naming them. The known executives arrived in 2018: Scott Smith (CEO until 2021) and David Johnson (CCO, then CEO since 15/02/2021).

Which games did Chance Interactive release?

The titles documented under the old name are Lolly Land (2015), Captain Black Bart's Treasure (2016), Creepy Castle (2017), Bounty Hunt, Canyon Cash, Buster Hammer and above all Buster Hammer Carnival (January 2019), still distributed today under the ReelPlay brand.

Who invented the Infinity Reels mechanic?

Infinity Reels is a mechanic designed by ReelPlay, the former Chance Interactive, and launched with El Dorado Infinity Reels in November 2019. Each win adds a reel and a respin with a growing multiplier, up to a fixed prize of 888 times the stake at the twelfth added reel.

What is the difference between Infinity Reels and InfiniReels?

Infinity Reels belongs to ReelPlay, InfiniReels to NetEnt. The two mechanics were designed independently, and the two companies signed an agreement on 27/04/2020 protecting their respective marks. Gods of Gold InfiniReels, NetEnt's first game of the kind, was released on 14/05/2020.

Which licence does the studio hold?

ReelPlay Pty Ltd holds a Gambling Software (Remote) licence from the UK Gambling Commission, account 54430, issued on 24/06/2019 and active as of 15/10/2026. No Maltese, Swedish or Curaçao licence is published. The US and Canadian markets are served under the aggregators' licences, including Light & Wonder's.

Can I play Chance Interactive games where I live?

That depends on your country's rules, not on the studio's licence. A B2B provider licence does not make online casino play legal anywhere. Several countries, and most US states, allow online sports betting but not online casino, so check the regulations of your own place of residence first.

Where can I find Chance Interactive games today?

Under the ReelPlay name, through the Relax Gaming (Powered By), Yggdrasil (YG Masters), Playzido and Light & Wonder (OpenGaming) networks. The Kynox page dedicated to Chance Interactive offers neither casinos nor demos: the current games are covered on the ReelPlay page.
