On November 22, 2018, Playson software released its new Wild Warriors™ instant slot, themed on the Nordic warrior women, the Valkyries: legend or reality? The Valkyries are divine female beings who served Odin and Freyja in Norse mythology. Their purpose was to select the most valiant fallen, and take them to Valhalla (a hall in Odin's palace) where they would become einherjer, the spirits of fallen warriors.
Odin needed them as conquerors to fight with him in the battle of the end of the world Ragnarök, against the fire giants led by Surt, but also against the Jotuns (giants of superhuman strength) released by Loki. Not only will the gods, giants and monsters die, but practically the whole universe will be destroyed.
Their usual residence was the Vingolf, one of the abodes of the deities, where the dead fighters went, a building that had five hundred and forty doors through which they entered to be healed, deloused by their beauty, and where the Wild Warriors™, the valkyries, gave them hidromel to drink.
Originally many of the more famous Valkyries had mortal relatives, and were thought to be the priestesses of Odin who officiated in ritual sacrifices in which prisoners were executed by these young warrior women who decided who should live and who should die.
Other sources say that the Wild Warriors™, the Valkyries, were bands of female warriors where one was appointed to lead this troop. All indications were that she was a human woman, the daughter of a king but who also had the supernatural powers of the others.
The Wild Warriors™ instant slot tells us the story of 4 Valkyries Gunnr, Rota, Skuld, under the orders of Sváva their leader in one of their adventures. Odin had just called Sváva to give her a most important mission: she had to lead her troop through the kingdom, in the bloodiest battlefield and bring back to him the five best warriors because Ragnarok was getting closer.
Obeying her god, Sváva returns to find her warriors and announces their imminent departure, they cannot lose time, the end of the world is approaching, Odin feels it, and they cannot fail in their mission! Without further ado they set off on the sacred path that would lead them to the conquerors, and there their task would become more complicated: how to choose the most valiant?
Sváva knew they would have to agree this time. Their god had ordered only five fighters but he wants the best, it will not be easy but she has never failed his orders. Her three best Valkyries will accompany her, and the mission is going to be called Wild Warriors™. Time is not on their side and they don't want to make a mistake!
Odin had told them that they could find this famous battle next to the Yggdrasil, the tree of wisdom, as Hrym's troop wanted to destroy it and King Budli had come to defend it. The snake that lived inside the tree had warned him, they were in danger! King Budli had not hesitated for a moment: this battle would be to the death, but it was necessary to avoid the beginning of the Ragnarök!
Sváva had gathered her best warriors in Gunnr, Rota and Skuld, and set off towards Yggdrasil, the rest of the troop is coming too but the responsibility falls on the four friends, they have no choice! Too important to leave the decision in the wrong hands!
After a long journey, mounted on their magnificent horses, they finally arrive at the sacred tree. The landscape is desolate, massacres, the ground littered with corpses but a few men were still standing... The strongest, the most valiant... Now they had to choose!
After having studied them closely, and chosen the five best specimens to bring them back to Odin, our Valkyries, daggers, bows and spears in hand, started to eliminate one by one the other warriors leaving only the five chosen ones alive! Everything was happening so fast, the men didn't have time to react, too agile these beauties!
In no time at all the battlefield showed only five fighters: the five chosen ones. Sváva briefly explains their mission. They must accompany them to Odin to fight at his side at the end of the world, the Ragnarök. These five brave warriors had no choice and it was a great honour for them to serve the great Odin!
By the time they got to him, no time to relax with the Valkyries, the earth shook so hard that trees were uprooted, mountains began to fall, uncontrolled fires started one after another... The Ragnarök had arrived. The final battle between the gods, the monsters and the giants with supernatural powers has begun! The Valkyries, Odin's faithful warriors, will remain at his side, happy to have accomplished their mission...
