The German interstate gambling treaty, known as the ISTG, has officially entered its transitional phase before coming fully into force on 1 July 2021. Between 15 October 2020 and next summer, German authorities are calling for immediate compliance to avoid potential pitfalls or even prosecution of operators.

Q: Does Betsoft meet the necessary requirements for online casino games to be both operational and compliant with the new German regulations?
KB: Short answer - yes.
According to GlüneuRStV, operators are required to comply with player protection guidelines, addiction prevention measures and the requirements of each vertical to be ready for July 2021 at the latest. Betsoft has ensured that the standard regulatory hurdles have already been overcome as the October/December 2020 requirements have been met. These changes have been implemented quickly. If new changes or requirements come into force, we will respond with the same speed and efficiency.
Q: How many operators have 'guaranteed' to re-sign with Betsoft to date under the increased regulations?
AD: Over 20 key operators are already in place and many more are in the process of doing so. The team is burning the midnight oil to ensure that the remaining operators are on-boarded as smoothly and efficiently as possible during this phase. Betsoft is renowned for its customer service and back-office systems, so we are confident that we will make this transition as seamless as possible.
Q: Will Betsoft's content strategy need to be adjusted to meet stricter regulations?
KB: Betsoft is a very forward-thinking and proactive company. We operate in highly regulated markets and compliance is as ingrained as our innovation and entertainment skills. I don't think any significant change is necessary. We will continue our strategy of providing an award-winning and diverse portfolio of high-quality games to our growing customer base.
Q: What obstacles, if any, does Betsoft foresee along the way?
AD: Currently, we are very capable of meeting and overcoming the technical requirements. Furthermore, we are able to meet them quickly. We are confident to engage in all iterations from the German regulator. However, the situation remains very malleable, making it difficult to assess the extent and scope of potential obstacles. However, as always, we fully support and stand ready to serve our loyal customers in this market.
Q: What opportunities does Betsoft see for itself and its operators as a result of the new regulations?
KB: Change breeds opportunity. For now, however, our focus is on promoting the Betsoft product in a dynamic market and focusing on customer service. In short, it's business as usual.
