Three bandits from the great West are looking for a shipment of gold that has gone missing. Lorenzo is a criminal who has committed many crimes and is wanted because there is a price on his head. Wild Bill and his friend Jesse Picket agree to deliver the former to the sheriff and collect the reward.
When Jesse Picket collects the reward and Wild Bill is about to be hanged, he frees his partner, they both run away, divide the money and repeat the same operation in the neighbouring villages. Meanwhile, the story of the lost gold convoy reaches the ears of a third outlaw, Butch Curry, who begins to make inquiries to gather information. Rumour has it that a soldier is guarding it.
The two companions quarrel on the way and Jesse Picket abandons Wild Bill in the middle of the desert, but after walking more than a hundred kilometres he finally arrives at a village in the middle of nowhere. The only thing that has made him survive is his thirst for revenge: he wants to find him and let his rage out!
Wild Bill soon finds Jesse Picket and carries out his revenge: he captures him and takes him across the desert on foot. When he finds the perfect place to kill him, they see a lot of dying or dead soldiers. Among them is the soldier who had hidden the treasure! He tells Wild Bill the place, a cemetery, and Jesse Picket the name of the grave where he is. So they have to get along by force!
Since both bandits were wounded and tired, they take refuge in a Catholic mission, once recovered, they set out again together, disguised as Confederate soldiers and on the way to the cemetery they are captured by Union soldiers and imprisoned in a prison camp.
Butch Curry, who has been following the soldier's trail, arrives at the camp and in time becomes a guard sergeant, gathering a band to help him with his plan. Soon he learns that the two companions know exactly where the treasure is. He offers to help them escape in exchange for some of the gold, which they obviously accept.
They all set off towards the cemetery where the gold is buried but the road is full of pitfalls, Wild Bill and Jesse Picket soon realise the evil intentions of Butch Curry and his men and they start a fierce battle between them. Butch Curry escapes and leaves his men to be shot by the two hoodlums.
The two continue their journey as they have a long way to go and each time they do, more people know that there is gold buried in a cemetery grave. A little further on they witness a fierce battle between Confederate and Union soldiers, who want control of a strategically valuable bridge for both armies.
Again our two outlaws are captured by the northerners but instead of staying as prisoners they offer the captain to enlist, which doesn't seem like a bad idea. After drinking, the captain reveals his strategy: he wants to steal the bridge to force the two armies to withdraw and finish with this battle which he considers deadly and useless.
The graveyard is past the bridge, so Wild Bill and Jesse Picket decide to help the captain and they go off to plant the explosives to destroy it and force the armies to withdraw. Meanwhile, the two bandits decide to tell each other their secret: each one reveals what he knows to the other.
When the bridge shatters, the reaction of the two opposing armies is as expected and they withdraw, so the two companions cross the river to reach their goal, the famous cemetery. On the way, Jesse Picket stops to help the wounded, but Wild Bill takes advantage of this to go as fast as possible to his goal.
When he gets there, he spots the famous grave and starts digging vigorously to try to make off with the treasure before his companion gets there, and then leaves alone. But the reality is quite different, and Jesse Picket joins him. He orders him at gunpoint to dig deeper. What our two colleagues did not expect was that Butch Curry would also arrive!
So the third in question forces the other two to dig, after a while Jesse Picket reveals that this grave doesn't contain the gold and the three criminals decide to duel in the main square of the cemetery. Jesse Picket shoots Butch Curry, and Wild Bill has just discovered that his gun has no bullets: Jesse Picket had taken away all the ammunition because he didn't trust him at all and knew exactly what could happen.
Jesse Picket orders him to dig the right grave to get the gold. As soon as the treasure is outside, he forces his travelling companion to put a rope around his neck. When he loads half the gold onto his horse, Wild Bill sees how it gallops away. He then turns around and pulls the rope with his gun, freeing him, but leaving him alone with his half of the loot and no horse.
