Honey was usually extracted from traditional hives by pressing or tapping, which crushed the wax cells. Because of this method of harvesting, straw hives provided more wax but less honey than a modern hive. Later, the Abbé Emile Warré invented a popular hive model with fixed or movable frames, the so-called Warré hive.
However, as bees are endangered and protected by law in many countries, these traditional methods are rarely used. In some countries, the law requires the beekeeper to ensure the health of the colonies, and therefore to have access to the hive to detect diseases and parasites, without destroying the cells, and often the colony.
The Hive™ is a 3-4-5-4-3 hexagon shaped grid with 30 winning lines. The game will pay both horizontally and vertically. Coinciding wins on different lines will be added. The highest win on each line will be paid. In each round a random bee may appear in one of the 18 designated points on the hive grid. In the following rounds the bees move clockwise around the hive from one position in The Hive™ cash game. The bees spawned will fly after an unspecified number of rounds. The drone bee will fill The Hive™ gauge with the free Sticky Sweets spins of a level. If a drone bee is activated all drone bees will fill the gauge by one point. The worker bees will apply their multiplier to winning lines that are aligned with the worker bee. The value of the multiplier is equal to the number of worker bees +1.
Drone bees and worker bees can be activated any number of times as long as they are circling the hive. Each appearance of the drone bee will fill the gauge by one level for each drone bee present including those that appear. The honey gauge has 12 levels. When the drone bees have filled the gauge, 5 free spins will be rewarded.
The Hive™ free spins will start with 1, 2 or 3 Honey Burst spreading wilds. If the free spins have started all the bees around the hive will leave. When the free spins end the bees will return to the hive grid and occupy the positions they had before the free spins started.
The Hive™ scattered wilds will only appear during the free spins. The scattered wilds will spread to adjacent cells with each spin until there are no more free spaces or the free spins have ended. Scattered wilds will disappear at the end of the free spins.
